Public Forum May 28th: Commuter Rail Parking

Please attend this meeting to share your comments, questions, and ideas related to parking in South Acton near the MBTA Commuter Rail Station

In order to better meet the commuting needs of everyone who uses the South Acton station, the Town of Acton is conducting a parking study for the community. 

Acton needs your input!

The Acton Commuter Rail Parking Study is meant to solve problems that impact you. The more input you provide, the more the community can thrive! A public forum will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 7PM in the Faulkner Meeting Room in Acton Town Hall. This meeting is a great opportunity to share your comments, concerns, and goals for Acton’s parking future. This meeting will include:

•    Initial findings from analysis of the existing parking and transportation system as it related to the commuter rail service

•    Draft strategies to improve the commuter rail parking system for review by the community

•    Information regarding changes to the parking system and the future of the parking study

About the Acton Parking Study

In April of 2019, the Town of Acton hired Nelson\Nygaard to develop a comprehensive Commuter Rail Parking Plan for the South Acton Station. This plan will seek to balance growing demand for parking with the need to preserve the neighborhood character which makes Acton a great place to work, live, or play. 

The parking study team is coordinating with key stakeholders and all interested members of the public to ensure that local needs are heard. The open house meeting will seek feedback on findings and strategies. This study will evaluate all areas of parking and transportation related to South Acton Station, including public and private parking availability, fees and enforcement strategies, and alternatives to parking such as biking, walking, and shuttles. The parking study will address:

    Parking demand throughout the commuter rail parking system

    Parking management, time limits, pricing, and enforcement

    Future parking needs for Acton

    Managing parking for commuter rail users

    Practical strategies to address growing demand

    Parking technologies such as pre-payment systems and enforcement; and

    Fiscally responsible parking management measures

All proposed solutions are intended to be practical, actionable, and cost effective while taking into account the needs of all members of the community. Most importantly, changes to Acton’s parking will only be successful with support and input from the local community.
