Parking - General Rules

  • Park in marked parking spaces only.
  • Vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed, if not parked in a marked parking space.
  • Handicap Accessible parking is free and is open to Acton residents and non-residents.
  • No overnight parking is allowed (South Acton Main Commuter Lot on Central Street is excluded from this rule)
  • Winter Parking Ban: No person shall allow, permit or suffer any vehicle in his name, other than one acting
    in an emergency, to be parked in the following location for a period of time longer than one (1) hour between
    the hours of 1:00am and 6:00am of any day from November 1 to April 1.  (South Acton Main Commuter Lot on Central
    Street is excluded from this rule)

Acton Resident Sticker Program

Acton Resident Sticker - $100 per year
Senior Citizen (65+ years) Acton Resident Sticker - $50 per year

  • Stickers are available at Town Hall, Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00pm, or at the Police Station at any time (Cash or Check only).
  • A valid Acton car registration is required to purchase a resident sticker.  Leased vehicles will also require a current Acton real estate property tax bill.
  • Parking in a metered space requires payment of the meter; a resident sticker does not invalidate the need to pay a meter.
  • The resident portion of the lot requires a valid resident sticker.
  • The resident sticker must be attached to the lower driver's side corner of the rear windshield, see image below.
  • A resident sticker does not guarantee a parking space.
  • A separate sticker must be purchased for each vehicle.
  • Resident stickers are valid for 12 months and are valid through the last day of the month numbered on the sticker. (i.e.: A sticker with an “8” would be valid through and including August 31st).

Recycling and Commuter Parking Sticker - $115/year
Senior Citizen (65+ years) - $55/year
Recycling, Transfer Station and Commuter Parking Sticker - $200/year
Senior Citizen (65+ years) - $60/year

  • Stickers are available at the Transfer Station, Tuesday - Thursday 8am-3pm, Friday 7am-3pm and Saturdays 7am-4:30pm.
  • Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card.
  • A separate sticker must be purchased for each vehicle.
  • A valid Acton car registration is required to purchase a resident sticker.  Lease vehicles will also be required to provide a current Acton real estate property tax bill.
  • General Rules and Acton Resident Sticker rules apply to these stickers.

Parking Meters

South Acton Commuter Lot

Fee -  $5/day

Make sure you have the correct amount prior to inserting money into the meter. These meters do not recognize pennies, NH Turnpike Tokens or foreign currency such as Canadian coins. Parking in a metered space requires payment of the meter; a resident sticker does not invalidate the need to pay a meter. Vehicles will be ticketed if parked at an expired metered space. To report a problem to the Parking Clerk, please call (978) 929-6622, and be sure to have the number of the metered parking space.

New Parking Meter Instructions

  1. Press the “START” Button.
  2. Enter the Parking Space number Painted on the pavement. 
  3. Insert Payment (Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, $1 Coins, $1 & $5 bills, credit cards or Passport Pay By Phone option)
  4. For Credit Card -Insert card for payment. Wait for “Take Your Card Back” message.
  5. Press “PRINT” to authorize the transaction. Final screen will state “Transaction Finished” after the payment has been accepted.

Commuters do not need to place tickets/receipts in their windshield as proof of payment.

Pay-By-Phone Option

Bike Lockers

South Acton Main Commuter Lot, Central Street

Fee - $100/year or $14/month

  • Bicycle lockers are available for rent at the South Acton Train Station. Bicycle lockers provide bicycles and accessories with a high level of security against theft and with superior protection against adverse weather conditions. They also provide a guaranteed parking space for bicycle commuters.
  • Each renter must pay a $50.00 security deposit, which is refundable after the key is returned and the locker is left in satisfactory condition.

Jones Field – Reserved Parking on Martin Street / Stow Street

Fee - $100/month. (requires a minimum of 3 monthly payments)

  • The designated parking space will be reserved from 6am to 10am Monday – Friday.   The space is available to others if you have not occupied it prior to 10am.
  • If another vehicle is parked in your space, you are allowed to park in space # 13.  You must call the Acton Police Department at 978-929-7711 for instructions.
  • The designated parking space is not reserved on weekends.
  • Your vehicle and appendages (trailer hitches, etc…) shall not extend beyond the white fog line.   Failure to comply may lead to fines, towing and revocation of your permit with no refunds.
  • The Town is not responsible for lost items or damage to the vehicle.
  • By submitting this application, you acknowledge and agree not to trespass on private or MBTA property.  
  • Crossing the railroads tracks at grade or walking along the tracks is illegal and dangerous.



Maple Street Lot - Car Pooling Reserved Parking Program

Fee – $75/month (requires a minimum of 3 monthly payments paid electronically)

  • Requires a minimum of three (3) adults per application
  • Requires having at least 2 of the 3 applicants present in order to be eligible to park in the reserved car pool parking space. 
  •  If only a single applicant is present, the vehicle is not allowed to be left in a car pool parking space during the enforced time period. 
  • If necessary, parking in a metered space requires payment of the meter.
  • The car pool program does not invalidate the need to follow the rules for the other parking programs.
  • Three (3) parking violations related to commuter parking in South Acton results in the loss of the reserved car pool parking space.
  • Parking is only permitted within a designated parking space.  Parking is not allowed in any other areas
  • The designated parking space will be reserved from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM Monday – Friday.  The space is available to others if you have not occupied it prior to 10:00 AM.
  • If another vehicle is parked in a reserved space, call the Acton Police Department at 978-929-7711 for instructions.
  • The designated parking space is not reserved on weekends.
  • The Town is not responsible for lost items or damage to the vehicle.
  • Payments are to be received by the due date of the bill. Late payments, up to 30 days beyond the due date, will be charged a $15 late fee. If three payments are received late, it will result in revocation of the permit privilege.  Payments received more than 30 days late will be returned and permit privileges will be revoked.
  • Request for refunds shall be made in writing.  Refunds will not be considered for any dates prior to the written request.
  • Vehicles parked in violation of this section may be ordered by the Police Department to be ticketed or towed at the expense of the owner of the vehicle.
