Police Officer, Kristin Gates

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Please welcome APD’s newest Police Officer, Kristin Gates. Kristin has prior experience working for the Maynard Police Department as a Patrol Officer and has also worked for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer.  During her time at MPD, Kristen received specialized investigator training and was a Life Saving Award recipient. 

Kristin holds an Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Massbay Community College and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from UMass Lowell. 

Kristin also serves as a Combat Engineer for the Massachusetts National Guard. We are excited for Kristin to continue her career in Law Enforcement with the Town of Acton.

COUNCIL ON AGING MONTHLY HIGHLIGHTS


  • The Council on Aging at the Senior Center offers services, meals and activities for residents age 60 and up; most activities are free of charge with a nominal charge for meals.
  • We are located in the Human Services building at 30 Sudbury Road Rear; contact us at 978-929-6652 or seniorcenter@actonma.gov 
  • Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 8 am to 5 pm, Tuesday 8 A.M. to 7:30 P.M., and Friday 8 A.M. to 12 noon

For seniors and their family members seeking information on area social services, please contact Senior Services Coordinator Beverly Hutchings at 978-929-6652. She provides information on home care agencies, elder day programs, housing options, food and fuel assistance, and other services. 

Special events this month: We are honoring Juneteenth with a music program “From Abolition to the Harlem Renaissance.” In recognition of Pride Month, we are showing the film Stonewall Uprising.  We have organized a tour of Haartz Manufacturing’s facility for Acton’s older adults.  There is a caregiver resource fair, a document shredding day, and an opportunity to talk with Assistant Town Manager Thom Begin at “Tea with Thom” following the monthly breakfast. 

Classes offered in June include cooking Asian dumplings, making minor clock repairs, greeting card workshop, and the poetry of W.B. Yeats. Entertainment includes an Elvis Tribute. 

Lifelong learning & other lectures: The History of Armenia, a discussion on decluttering/organizing your home before selling, author talk with Acton’s Paulette Stout Understanding Estate Planning, Senior Living 101, an informational session on the use of Narcan, and Wedding Day Traditions. 

There are a variety of special meals including dinner and breakfast each month, and our lunch café, Bistro30, is open for all ages every Wednesday and Thursday. Play a variety of games including Mah Jongg and chess. Check out Computer Club, genealogy group, and needle arts.
