The NEW signalized HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk) System is operational on Great Road at the crosswalk next to the intersection with Brook Street.
The Town planned this project after completing the Great Road Complete Streets (grant-funded) design study.
Through our partnership with MassDOT, the state agreed to pay for this “shovel ready’ project from state budget funds. MassDOT is also proposing to fund another $2M+ of improvements to Great Road based on our complete streets designs. These improvements to Great Road with external funding directly address the Select Board’s short term goal #1: “Make progress with Great Road safety and complete street improvements”. We were able to leverage these state funds by completing design work and obtaining community input about projects making it easier for the state to help us.
