Resources are available for renters that need assistance with housing-related issues
The Town of Acton is committed to helping support our residents' need for safe and clean housing. We encourage any resident in need of assistance to take advantage of the many resources that we offer, including our hotline.
Renters looking for assistance with housing-related issues, including tenants' rights, eviction support, housing code violations and fair housing practices, are encouraged to call the Town Hotline at 978-929-6600. The hotline is staffed Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Renters also may email tenantsupport@actonma.gov for assistance.
An interdisciplinary working group, consisting of members from the Town Manager's Office, Police Department, Council on Aging, Board of Health, Community Resources, Planning Office, Veterans Services, Information Technology and other local officials, has been established to support tenants when housing issues arise.
Renters should know that the Acton Board of Health offers pre-housing inspections. Inspections help to ensure that renters have a safe and sanitary living space that complies with all legal requirements. The Board of Health also provides renters with information about their rights and responsibilities at the time of inspection. To set up an inspection, please call 978-929-6632.
The Council on Aging, Community Resources Office and Veterans Service Office also are available to assist residents with advocacy, application assistance and other social service needs. They can be reached at:
- Council on Aging: call 978-929-6652 or email Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator Beverly Hutchings at bhutchings@actonma.gov
- Community Resources Office: call 978-929-6651 or email Community Resources Coordinator Laura Ducharme at lducharme@actonmagov
- Veterans Service Office: call 978-929-6652 or email Veterans Services Officer James MacRae at jmacrae@actonma.gov
Additional initiatives aimed at enhancing the level of support provided to renters are underway. Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for announcements of these initiatives.
