[ARCHIVED] Acton Rides Taxi Service - Change in Monthly Limitations

New changes to the Acton Ride program including limitations on number of rides

In August 2023, the Town introduced a new livery pilot program called Acton Rides as an addition to our existing transportation services (www.actonma.gov/transportation). This grant and ARPA-funded program has provided residents with free rides from livery providers when other town transportation options weren’t available.

Initially, the program included some ride restrictions. However, from April to August 31, 2024, we temporarily lifted these restrictions to make the service even more accessible.

Starting on September 1, 2024, the program will follow new guidelines with updated ride restrictions, similar to those we had at the launch. We will continue to evaluate ways to provide convenient and reliable transportation for all residents while refining the program to ensure a sustainable funding model.

  • The new limit on the number of one-way trips per person is 4 per month.
  • The radius for eligible destination is now 20 miles with an exception for Boston hospitals/medical appointments.

The Here is the updated overview of the revised pilot program:

1.    Eligible trips include the following:

  1. Essential medical services including appointments, filling prescriptions & obtaining medical supplies
  2. Essential food and home services including grocery, food pantry, hardware, super stores etc.
  3. Employment when no other options are available
  4. Cultural and Educational when no other options are available

2.    Before you can book a ride, you must complete an application for the program. Those interested in using the program should not contact CrossTownConnect (CTC) Dispatch until they receive official notification via email that they are approved for the program. Failure to adhere to these rules may cause a suspension in eligibility to utilize the program. To apply, follow these steps:

3.    Who may use the Acton Rides Taxi Program?

Acton Residents who meet one of the following criteria:

  1. 50 years of age or older
  2. 18 years of age or older with a disability that limits driving
  3. 18 years of age or older with financial need
  4. Active Duty military, Reserves, National Guard, or Veteran of the armed forces

Note: if you do not meet any of the above criteria, you are ineligible for this program.

4.    Where can I go?

All rides must begin or end in the Town of Acton. Rides are available within 20 miles with an exception for medical appointments in Boston.

5.    You can use the Taxi Service to book rides when Acton’s public transit system is not available. Rides can be booked during these hours: Monday-Friday, 3pm-11pm; Saturday-Sunday, 7am-9pm.
